I occasionally visit a café in Buxton (Charlotte’s,
in the old pump rooms) which has decoupaged some of its tables. One of those
has been covered with sections of old map. I presume that this is a plain
wooden table which has had the map pieces pasted on. There seems to be a really
thick coating of varnish on the top, which does make the table feel a little
bit sticky.
But I do love this particular table and make a
bee-line for it, if the really comfy settee is taken. What better way to take
your tea – sipping it from a china teacup while being able to select my piece
of the British Isles to take an imaginary tour round. I got a bit of Dorset at
my elbow last time I was in…my favourite!
